The Midwest in a Box

I wondered how the Midwest was represented through videos and images. I discovered that there are three ways to represent the Midwest. First, there is the stereotypical backwoods, farmer representation. The boy in this Youtube video mocks the basic life of the stereotypical Midwesterner in his “Midwestern” version of MTV Cribs.

These images show the farmland of the Midwest. Images of the Midwest often show off the endless, flat plain.

 

 

 

 

Another group of Midwest images involves pride in the Midwest. These hip hop videos show pride in being Midwestern.  “Welcome to the Midwest” and “Midwest Swing” both express pride in the Midwest and its people.

Finally, the Midwest is often represented as having horrible weather. There are many videos and images documenting the difficult weather seasons in the Midwest.
